EventRebels Releases First Accessible Online Registration to Comply with Section 508
ELLICOTT CITY, MD - September 2, 2003 - EventRebels.com, provider of online
and onsite registration technology and services, today announced the release
of the first online registration system that is fully compliant with Federal
standards for accessibility to people with disabilities (commonly known as
"Section 508"). The first use of the newly released registration system will
be for IDEAS, a two-day conference and trade show focusing on information
technology, laws and regulations affecting accessibility that is being put on
by Post-Newsweek.
EventRebels' new online registration form has special features that make it
accessible to people with visual impairments, and to those who may be using a
browser that converts the information on a Web page to spoken words. The
EventRebels software has passed a comprehensive testing process and received
the seal of approval from "Bobby," the industry standard for measuring
Section 508 compliance. Since all online registration forms are generated by
the company's proprietary software system, all online registration forms
hosted by EventRebels are now compliant with the standards, automatically.
"We are excited to be able to take the leadership role in making online
registration available to all users, including those with special needs,"
said K.C. Hopson, president of EventRebels.com. "Being the first fully
compliant online registration system will provide us with a competitive
advantage. It will also let us go home at the end of the day knowing we've
done the right thing for the community."
Formally known as "Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d), as
amended by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (P.L. 105-220), August 7,
1998," the accessibility standard is commonly known as "Section 508." Section
508 requires that Federal agencies' electronic and information technology is
accessible to people with disabilities. Section 508 was enacted to eliminate
barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for
people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that
will help achieve these goals. For more information about section 508 and the
IDEAS conference, please visit http://www.section508.gov.
