We wrote recently about how some apps that are using the camera of your smartphone to process credit cards. Of course, these are in addition to well-known apps such as Square which uses a device attachment to turn your phone into a cash register. E-commerce giant PayPal has also introduced a number of mobile solutions. One of these products, PayPal Here, uses a device like Square to process credit cards.
Getting started with PayPal Here is easy. Just log into your PayPal account and fill out a short application. You will then be sent a text with a link to the PayPal Here app. After you download and start the app, PayPal will confirm the address to mail the free credit card reader. You can then set settings for your future Here purchases such as tax, tips and discounts. Other settings include a catalog of frequently sold items and related options.
You can use different forms of payment for the actual purchase. The best one, of course, is to use the card reader. You can just swipe the card and finish the purchase. PayPal charges a flat 2.7% for each swipe transaction. You can also manually enter the credit card information – you would pay a slightly higher rate for this. Cash, check and invoice is also supported. Upon completion the app can email or text a receipt to the customer. At any time you can run real-time reports and transfer funds into your PayPal connected accounts.
PayPal Here is compatitble with Apple iOS and Android phones and tablets, so you can pick the device with which you would be most comfortable. Like other PayPal products, Here has excellent third party integration. Such integration is not the case with many other swipe products like Square. For this reason, EventRebels has chosen Pay Pal Here as the platform to handle registration payments for the next release of the EROnsite Registration and Session Tracking product.
